Sony has released the first (and first official) picture of Andrew Garfield in the Spider-Man suit from their reboot of the series to be directed by Marc Webb. The picture was released by Sony for W Magazine, an apparent outlet for Sony first looks. Here is the image of Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man: I'm pleasantly surprised by this really. If the film retains this look, then it will certainly be darker and grittier which is actually a plus in my book. The suit may not look as good as the Sam Raimi one, but I don't think it has to, nor should it, based on the direction of the film. Will 3D be necessary? Probably not (of course, one could argue this entire film is unnecessary, but I digress). And should JK Simmons be allowed to reprise his role as J. Jonah Jameson? Of course! We'll just have to see what the future holds for the Spider-Man reboot, but if this is an early indication, it does not appear to be shaping up too badly.

Wow, a lot darker than I imagined. Pretty interesting! Indeed. After hearing the idea of rebooting with the director of 500 Days of Summer, all I could think of was light hearted teen comedy with a superhero. Ugh. Luckily it seems that the basic idea is still there, but with a darker tone and I'm quite welcoming of that. I liked the first two Spidey films, so going back to high school with a much "happier" style was a HUGE turnoff to me, but if its going to be like this, I might actually WANT to see it.

Good call on the casting of JK Simmons for a reprisal. I went back and watched Spider-Man not to long ago and was really feeling his portrayal. I seriously can't imagine anyone else in the part.
I'm unsure of the darker spider-man. I mean sure it worked so well with a hero like Batman, but to me Spider-Man is just too much of an average Joe imho. Either way this turn has sparked my interest in the film.

Good call on the casting of JK Simmons for a reprisal. He hasn't been cast. I'm saying should he be recast? Most definitely. Webb is having trouble filling in that role, yet Simmons was perfect for it, so it only makes sense for Webb to get his head out of his you know what and recast him.

Liking what I'm seeing. The only image I'd seen prior to this is one of him running, which to me looks like a pre-renedered CGI shot so didnt really give anything away. But seeing him as Spidey, it looks 'right' if you get my meaning, he doesnt look out of place in the suit.
